Jaen’s Spa, Ubud, 19th Feb 2011

Summary: Attractive, beautifully scented and welcoming spa. Friendly, gentle staff with lovely Balinese smiles. Great massages by caring, attentive masseuses. Nice products. Good value. Highly recommended.

Situated on Ubud’s busy Jl. Pengosekan, next door to Buddha and Silk and close to the famous Dirty Duck (Bebek Bengil) restaurant, is Jaen’s Spa. The spa has a very welcoming atmosphere and, having driven up from Sanur, we were very pleased to be greeted with a cool drink and cold minty towels to freshen up. A perusal of the treatment menu saw me decide on a 1 hour massage plus coconut and jasmine body scrub, while my partner took a 2 hour full body massage. While having our feet washed in petal water and scrubbed with blue crystals, both masseuses took the effort to ask if we had any particular problems they should look out for during the massage – a nice thought which we rarely come across! We were then escorted into a spacious double room with 2 comfortable treatment beds and 2 baths with tea-lights scattered around. The masseuses took care to explain where to put our clothes and which sarong was to cover us up and left us to prepare.

The massages were wonderful – my partner almost fell asleep he was so relaxed by the treatment! My massage was soothing and therapeutic at the same time, with a great release of tension around my neck and shoulders. I was then slathered from neck to toes with the scrub, which was then rubbed off leaving my skin silky smooth. Yoghurt was then put all over me to soothe the skin and I was shown to my warm, flower petal bath where I soaked for a little while.

Results: Two reinvigorated, mellowed out travellers, ready to hit the road with the knots in our bodies successfully banished!

SANG SPA, UBUD 9th Feb, Jalan Jembawan, Ubud
The first thing that strikes you about Sangs Spa in Ubud is what thoroughly great people they are. From the owners to the therapists your welcome is both warm and personal. They are knowledgeable too and offer simple advice about the treatments and benefits. Situated near the very heart of Ubud it is very convenient although parking can be a little tricky. If you are driving yourself then we would suggest parking on the main street (near Nomad Restaurant) and walking the 250m to the Spa. The Spa is very clean and well maintained and also very well designed drawing on the owner’s long experience to create a relaxing ambience. One aspect that was very enjoyable was the option to have a double treatment room. The treatment rooms are self contained with treatment beds, showers and a large stone bath.
We experienced 4 different treatments, body mask, face mask, full body massage & upper body massage, all of which were delivered very professionally by polite, well trained and obviously caring therapists. After the treatment there is time to relax and kick back with a choice of drinks and fruit before floating back to reality refreshed and rejuvenated.
Pricing at Sang is very reasonable and we would suggest that you take any of their 3.5 to 5 hour packages which starting at only US$42 and offer incredible value.
The Relaxing Package is the cheapest and offers Holistic Massage, Facial Treatment & a Hair Cream Bath over about 3.5 hours. As an added service Sang will collect guests free of charge from the Ubud area and offer excellent rates from most major tourist centres.
We would highly recommend Sang Spa in Ubud for great value and great treatments.

REBORN KUTA. REVIEW 24 JAN 2011 AJ, Sanur. We find REBORN to be an excellent place to get good quality massage and reflexology treatments. The staff are very helpful and the wide range of therapists provide good value treatments. The facility is clean and well maintained with adequate room for changing & showering. One added bonus is that they maintain a strict quiet regime. We would recommend being very specific regarding the style and strength of treatment to ensure satisfaction. Both male and female therapists are available. Highly Recommended, expect to pay around US$11 for a 2 hour treatment before 2pm and $14 after 2pm.

ZEN’SATION KUTA, REVIEW 21 January 2011. CO, Sanur. ZEN’SATION has a lot going for it; it’s modern, clean and a very nice environment being very light and airy to get either a reflexology or massage treatment. The traditional massage was good without being spectacular; we will try other treatments over the coming months. Unless you take their promotion ZEN’SATION is relatively expensive for standard treatments, however they do offer an afternoon discount package where a 2 hour traditional massage will cost around US$15. A warm and pleasant welcome awaits you in this new venture and I am sure it will go from strength to strength.

MAYA UBUD RESORT & SPA, January 2011. S, Perth. Where else can you have three hours of total pampering (Riverside special pre book price- full body massage, relaxing 20 min flower/moisturising bath/ full facial/moisturising treatment) for $130AUD - nowhere? Prove it to yourself and stay there

BOUTIQUE SPA SEKAR JAGAT, NUSA DUA, Dec 2010, VH, UK. What a lovely place this is to visit. The price of a three hour massage package is less than half what our hotel spa charges. If you book online beforehand it is even cheaper. You get a pick up from your hotel also. We got there to be given a lovely ginger and lemon tea. Then we were both taken to a private spa room. We chose a three hour package which started with a 75 minute Balinese massage (which was so good I can't describe!!) Then you are given an all over body scrub for 30 minutes followed by a traditional flower bath. This is the sort of bath you wish you could have at home all the time!!! Amazing. Finally a 60 minute facial using all sorts of oils and scrubs. I have to say it was a truly amazing afternoon topped off with another tea and a free drop off back at our hotel. I cannot speak any higher about this Spa.

JARI MENARI, SEMINYAK, Dec 2010 M, Aus. We visited Jari Menari at the end of November and can honestly say that it was the best massage I have ever had ( and I have had a lot!) my masseuse name was Nyoman and he did indeed have magic fingers...It was so good we went back 3 more times. The place was super clean, very relaxing and had showers, lockers and toiletries. We were 30 minutes late for our first appointment ( our hotel driver got lost..) and thought that we would have lost our spot, but we didnt. They have a website so you can book from home before you come. I will definitely return next visit to Bali. Thank you Jari Menari and Nyoman!
